A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he earned two degrees, Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Industrial Design, Peter Diepenbrock has achieved a distinguished record of accomplishment as one of the region's most prolific and up-and-coming contemporary sculptors.
Currently Peter and his wife, Didi Suydam who is a talented jewelry designer - own the Suydam + Diepenbrock sculpture and jewelry gallery on Bridge Street in Newport. In addition to his artistic work, Peter is an active advocate for the arts and the relevance of design. As such, he appears frequently as a guest speaker at community and educational forums throughout the country and has served as an instructor in design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Peter's work has been featured in solo exhibitions appearing at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA; Newport Art Museum, and The Hunter Gallery, St. George's School in Newport; and Lenore Gray Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island.
Past and present design projects include several affiliations: Dansk International; Sampsonite Luggage Corporation; the Museum of Modern Art; the White House (for Christmas ornament design); and The Troy Collection (founded by Peter as a collection of limited edition sculptural and functional objects).
Peter has received numerous awards for his work, including: 9/11 Memorial from the State of Rhode Island; Marc Harrison Award for Excellence; Best Design Award, New York International Gift Show; Excellence in Design, Dansk International; and multiple awards--Fellowship in Crafts, Fellowship in Design, Fellowship in Sculpture--from the Rhode Island State Council on Arts.
Commissions received for public spaces include the 9/11 Memorial for the Rhode Island State House; Garden Memorial for the Governor Henry Lippitt House Museum; Sculptural Throne for London Contemporary Art, U.K., Infinity #3 , Town of East Greenwich, and numerous commissions for private residences in the Boston and Rhode Island area.
